When January rolls around, many people write down goals for the year ahead. These are often SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely, which are found to garner better results. Winners (those who achieve goals) and losers (those who don’t achieve goals) often have the same goals. They make a plan to achieve those goals. They get an accountability partner. They are firm and resolute. And yet, losers don’t achieve the goals they set while winners do. The primary reason is that losers are undermined by bad habits. It helps to understand why bad habits are more persistent than will power, determination and intent… and what can be done about it.
